This dashboard is a proof of concept created for a hiring-process assignment. It's a solution for visually representing data stored in a spreadsheet, making it more readable and valuable to the platform's users. The goal was also to display correlations between variables that show meaningful impact.
I started by summarizing the data in the spreadsheet provided by the company and writing the values on sticky notes, dividing them into categories. This let me play around with the values and manipulate them to visualize possible relationships between them, and build graphs based on those relationships.
To gather ideas and inspiration, I looked at various existing dashboards, graphs and charts to see how they visualize different types of data and correlation. I also read through parts of The Truthful Art: Data, Charts, and Maps for Communication by Alberto Cairo.
I continued with rough paper sketches to try out ideas and see what worked, testing different variations of graphs suited to different purposes: composition or comparison, static or over-time.
The result was a high-fidelity mockup containing different types of graphs: a line chart, donut charts, and horizontal segmented bar charts. Each chart reveals details on hover, as shown below.
To validate the idea, a brief user test was performed with two people. The goal was to make sure users could understand and perceive the visualized information without confusion. The test confirmed that people could see the correlations and draw meaningful conclusions from them.
